Help for Heroes Skeet Match
The 2016 Help for Heroes annual Skeet Charity Match between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on Sunday 6th March. A cool day and a light breeze greeted the 55 competitors. In the last two years the Derbyshire lads and lasses have given their Notts counterparts a good lesson in how to shoot Skeet. So Notts were out to square the record somewhat. With the best ten scores to count for each County, the Notts contingent were raring to begin.
The early pace was set by the Notts shooters with Pat Dickman on 100, followed a short while later by John Miller on 98 whilst Ash Parfrement, Tom Tristram and Andy Brown all recorded 96 apiece, Darren Watkinson 95, Neil Orr 94, Steve Hilton 91, John Martin 90 and Jenny Hilton 88
As the day wore on the breeze freshened and with Notts having posted their scores there was some big smiles in the Nottinghamshire camp and a little bird tells me a degree of trepidation amongst the Derby Shooters many of whom were yet to shoot. Nevertheless up to the mark stepped the guys and gals from Derbyshire and once again they triumphed with Gary Webster and Alan Barnes on 99 apiece, Julie Havill and Steve Pinch both on 98, Chris Bingley and Ben Ludford-Brooks both on 96, Matt Pegg 94, Paul Hallam and Geoff Flint 93 apiece and Chris Havill and Andrew Barnes both on 92.
So at the end of the day Derbyshire ran out clear winners by 14 clear targets an increase of 9 over their 2015 triumph. Congratulations to the winners and all competitors who took part.
A big thank you to all those who took part in this most worthy of Charity's. A similar big thank you to those who donated the many raffle prizes and for everyone who dug into their pockets to purchase tickets.
